Landscape is often the matrix of memory. For instance, a park or hospital cannot in our minds, be delinked from events that transpired there. Emotion often permeates into the landscape, the stage and setting of an experience. With the passage of time, there may be a blurring of what happened and where it happened. Urban rituals have changed in content and significance over time. In my younger days, I remember weekly visits to the market shopping for vegetables and groceries. Now, the reliance on quick commerce and door deliveries has changed a lot of it. Even a market visit would be a group activity with neighbours and friends walking and chatting together. Even a visit to the spa, having the staff try and sell you their most expensive treatment and products, opens your eyes to realities of urban commerce.
